“I didn’t want to become famous,” says the musician in an uncertain, slightly aching voice, for whom the nomination of his song for Oscar has become an absurd, strange and frightening event.
In 2003, according to one version, he committed suicide by sticking a knife in his chest. Contrary to the sullen beginning of “Heaven Adores You”, this is a surprisingly spiritually-raised, carefully, adoringly and devotionally constructed film not about the terrible history of combustion, not about addictions and depression, but about a wonderful person and musician who is still alive, albeit only it seems after watching. Interviews with friends and involved, previously unheard of music and other excavations such as photographs with school friends, pictures of proud people, including Portland, where he was famous for the whole world, and Los Angeles, where there is a wall on Sunset Boulevard in his honor.
