The events described in the film actually happened in the winter of 1959 in the Northern Urals, when the whole group, led by Igor Dyatlov, a fifth-year student of the Ural Polytechnic University, died strangely and mystically.
A group of American students led by Holly King, who is harassed by those events, receives a grant for the expedition. They are sent to the North Urals to follow the same road as the Dyatlov group and find out the reason and circumstances of their unsolved death.
