Stephanie is a Connecticut single mother who, after her husband's death, is forced to raise her son without anyone's help. For a long time, the widow was fixated on self-pity and could not find the strength to lead a normal life. Several times the heroine of the film "A Simple Request" even thought about suicide. But the growing son became the force that kept her from an irreversible act. Seeking support, Stephanie began spending most of the day in women's forums, where she interacted with other single mothers. Given the lack of friends in real life, this was her only outlet. The prospect of acquiring a real girlfriend appeared after meeting a neighbor who turned to a woman for help. Emily asks to pick up her child from school, to which the heroine gladly agrees, realizing that, having provided help, she will be able to count on friendly relations. But soon the neighbor disappears without a trace, leaving her son and husband. Initially trying not to interfere, Stephanie gradually begins to sympathize with the abandoned handsome Sean. But because of the escape of a failed friend, she is overcome by doubts about Sean, so the heroine decides to start her own investigation and find out who her neighbors are.
