The film is set in Germany in the 1930s. In a Jewish family lives the German shepherd Caleb, the favorite of the youngest son Joshua. When the Nazis take the whole family to a concentration camp, the dog falls into the hands of an SS officer, who begins to set him on the Jews. So Caleb ends up in a concentration camp, where he meets Joshua.
